Martha Speaks Celebrates Thanksgiving with a Special New Episode

PBS KIDS' Martha Speaks is celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday with a brand-new episode highlighting Martha's search for her family. Tune-in to learn more about Martha's history all Thanksgiving week long beginning November 19, 2012 on PBS KIDS (check local listings).

Now in its fourth season on PBS KIDS, Martha Speaks, based on the best-selling children's books by Susan Meddaugh, is a proven tool for increasing children's vocabulary. Martha is a beloved family dog who gained the power of speech when she was accidentally fed alphabet soup. Each episode is an adventure with Martha and her friends, during which they learn an array of vocabulary words. The series is supported by an educational outreach campaign that includes a cross-age reading buddy program. New Martha Speaks Games Online

Martha's adventures continue online at pbskids.org/martha, a comprehensive website that builds on the series' curriculum to bolster the oral vocabulary of 4- to 7-year-olds. New to the site is Martha's Stories, a collection of activities, including Town Crier, which helps children write and print their own newspaper stories, In The Park With Skits, in which they race for objects based on vocabulary descriptions, and Pup Talk, which empowers kids to create oral narratives using Martha Speaks characters. Additionally, kids can play Martha's Circus Spectacular, which features four cutting-edge, gesture-input games that react based on a child's movement. Visit pbskids.org/martha for more information.
